The Battle of the Sexes

After waiting a year, it was time for the REMATCH between the women and men of the Grand Haven Croquet Club. Recalling last year’s event, a protest was filed against the men for their failure to follow the rules. This year, the women arrived early, were out in force, and were ready to take on the men. There were so many women that signed up that the matches were lopsided and the Event Director had to recruit two women to play on the men’s team. He selected two ladies that were married to two men players to reduce the “cat scratching” that occurred during the men’s victory last year.
Hosted by the "Female Players", the male line up was served by hostesses a “special refreshment” in test tube vials and was served with Pink & White Zebra napkins.

Wine, Wickets, and BBQ

Spring is such a great time to be out and enjoy a little croquet, a little wine, and some good eats. Instead of heading to The River Club after Wine & Wickets, there was a big turnout for a pool side BBQ at the Creekside Pool. The BBQ was a fund-raiser, and for a minimal price, everyone got to enjoy a wonderful dinner of Smoke Pulled Pork, Cole Slaw, Macaroni Salad, Corn Bread and Lemonade from the newly opened Captain’s BBQ Bait & Tackle at Bing’s Landing.

The March Social & Tournament Awards Ceremony was held at the Creekside Athletic Center and hosted by Nobi Koop and Maggie & Tom Shelko & Co-Hosted by Debby & David Barry.

Grand Haven Croquet Club Members gathered to keep away the cold. They wore their hats to keep warm, but the weather was only overcast and not so cold, so they also wore their “Easter Bonnet’s” hoping to come away with the coveted prized for the “Best Hat Award”.
